#WAHHAHA Black History Month Big Comedy Night Celebrated it's 15th Birthday this year at WAH17!
BHM Big Comedy Night celebrated 15 years at the illustrious Walthamstow Assembly Hall in October 2017 with a sell-out night of laughter and music.
BHM Big Comedy Night’s stellar Birthday line up included headline act Curtis Walker and hosts Robbie G (Snatch, The Real McCoy, Desmonds, Eastenders) and BBC Radio’s Drive Times’ Eddie Nestor.
Other big names included ‘home grown’ Glenda Jaxson, Shabba – new to the show, Miss Mo ‘Real, Ghanian comedian A Dot, Roger D, Ashley Jay and Travis Jay. Even audience members were taking to the stage to tell some jokes!
Originally conceived as a cabaret show, this year Comedy Promoter and organiser Glen Watson decided to bring back some music too – with outstanding performances from Opera Singer Yvonne Davis and Violinist Daj Jordan.
For 15 years the show has celebrated the end of BHM when GLC projects co-odinator Akyaaba Addai-Sebo heard a co-worker’s child had asked “Mum, why can’t I be white?”. Akyaaba identified the need for the UK to have a permanent celebration of Africa’s contribution to world civilisation – where schools, libraries and museums can teach young British black Caribbean and Africans about the roots and their history.
At 4 hours long it’s one of the longest comedy shows in London! But the show is well paced, with music, intervals, food and drink. Clean sets and minimal swearing mean it’s a family show for all ages.
Another Brilliant Comedy Night returns to Walthamstow Assembly Hall next May 2018! Featuring host Thanyia Moore, Kevin J, White Yardie, Aurie Styla, Axel Blake, Eygpt, Babtunde, Kae Kurd, Judi Love and…. Pantonic Steel Orchestra.
